NEBOSH IGC Foundation & Pre-Preparedness Training

The NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) is one of the most recognized qualifications in occupational health and safety worldwide. This Foundation & Pre-Preparedness Training is specifically designed to help learners build a solid base of knowledge and confidence before joining the official accredited NEBOSH IGC program.

You will gain an in-depth understanding of both IG1 (Management of Health & Safety) and IG2 (Risk Assessment – Application), making you workplace-ready and better prepared to excel in your formal NEBOSH training.

Through interactive sessions, you will learn:

IG1 – Management of Health & Safety

• Why health & safety matters: moral, legal, and financial drivers

• The foundations of OHS management systems: Plan–Do–Check–Act

• Developing and communicating an effective health & safety policy

• Roles & responsibilities: employers, employees, contractors, regulators

• Worker participation and consultation strategies

• The risk assessment process – hazard ID, evaluation, and controls

• Common risk control measures (elimination, engineering, admin, PPE)

• Managing change and understanding risks from new processes/equipment

• Incident reporting, investigation, and basic root cause analysis

• Tools for monitoring, audits, and continual improvement

IG2 – Risk Assessment (Application)

• The purpose and real-world application of risk assessments

• Identifying common workplace hazards:

  • Physical (slips, trips, falls, electricity)

  • Mechanical (machinery, moving parts)

  • Chemical (dust, fumes, gases, liquids)

  • Biological (bacteria, viruses)

  • Ergonomic (manual handling, workstation design)

  • Psychosocial (stress, fatigue, workload)

• Evaluating risk with the likelihood × severity method

• Applying the hierarchy of controls to practical case studies

• Preparing a simple written risk assessment step by step

• Presenting and justifying safety recommendations to management
